In 1890, Ignatz married Mary Kappeller (b. April 10, 1873 in Munich (Bavaria) Germany; immigrated to the United States in 1883). The marriage took place at St. Elizabeth Church in Denver CO. Ignatz died on October 31, 1917 in Arvada CO and was buried on November 4, 1917 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Golden CO. Mary died January 24, 1939 and is also buried in Mt.Olivet Cemtery. Ignatz John Bacher married Elsie Caroline Apel (b. October 10, 1893 in Wheatridge CO) on November 27, 1920. Elsie and her only granddaughter, Diane Marie Bacher, died in an automobile accident at 26th & Wadsworth in Wheatridge on June 23, 1952; the car was driven by her daughter-in-law, Evangeline Sabourin Bacher; her only grandson, John Robert Bacher, was in the car and survived with his mother). Ignatz m. 2nd Ella Olson Apel (the widow of his best friend Arthur Apel and sister-in-law to the deceased Elsie) after Elsie's death. Ignatz died on January 5, 1973 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheatridge CO near the Apel plot. Elsie and Arthur were children of Ernest Apel (b. October 24, 1867 in Kassel, Germany) and Clara Barber (b. February 7, 1873 in Pueblo, Territory of CO). Ernest and Clara were married on December 26, 1892 in Denver CO. Ernest and Clara both died on December 29, 1941. He died at St. Anthony Hospital in (Wheat Ridge or Denver?) CO, and she died in Wheat Ridge CO. They are buried in the Apel plot in Crown Hill Cemetery in Golden CO. Ernest Apel was one of three children (sister Anne lived in Philadelphia, married John Vockeroth and had 3 children: Anna, John, and Clara; brother Conrad was the only live birth of twins and died as a young man). His parents were Adam Apel (came from Kassel, Germany and died in Wheat Ridge – “found dead in the Coulhan cabin”; thought to be buried in the Golden Cemetery) and Anna Martha (b. December 2, 1838 in Hessia; d. January 2, 1921 in Wheatridge CO; bur. Crown Hill Cemetery, Apel plot, Golden CO). Anna Martha’s sister-in-law Cecil lived in Philadelphia, and Anna Martha lived with her daughter Anne in Philadelphia until Anna Martha came to CO to live with Ernest and Clara about 1898. The family history book says “Aunt Cecil Kahl, also of Watervliet NY, believed to be mother of Adam Kahl, cousin to Ernest”. Ernest Apel came to the United States at the age of 14 to go to New York City. At 17, he returned to Germany for a short stay but came back to the United States so that he would not have to serve in the German military. Upon reaching the United States, he traveled to Philadelphia where he worked in the coal mines. In 1889, he and friend John Brown hooked freight cars and walked the railroad ties to Larime WY. There they worked for the railroad for a time before traveling on to Denver. Once there, they worked to learn truck gardening and fruit culture and, by 1890, rented a plot of land to begin their own truck garden. In 1891, John Brown returned to the East. Ernest stayed on to become a very successful truck farmer, later bringing his son Arthur and son-in-law Joseph Bacher into the business. Adam Apel’s parents were Johann Adam Apel and Martha Kahl Apel. No other information is currently known about them. Notify Administrator about this message?
