I recently purchased the subject photo album at a show and sale. Burned into the leather cover are holly leaves and berries and "Badgers. 1908." Inside are 29 photos, all but one uncaptioned. One loose photo, mounted to a board, depicting a group of eight people standing in front of a small clapboard house, surrounded by trunks, is labeled on the back in pencil: "Ready to start for California at last" There is a similar photo with 12 people standing in front of a second house, again surrounded by trunks. Ages of the people range from infants to the elderly. There are a number of photos depicting a wagon drawn by two horses. Across the rear of the canvas top shading the passengers is a sign reading "BADGER." The family used this wagon to go tent camping. Many of the photos were taken in northern and/or central California judging by the scenery, including coast redwood and Monterey cypress trees. There are two photos of three men playing in the snow in front of the observatory on Mount Hamilton. The only likely candidate family I could find in the Census data was the Baker W. and Fannie W. Badger family that in 1900 resided in White Sulphur Springs, Meager Co., MT, and in 1910 resided in Berkeley, Alameda Co., CA. Baker worked as a real estate/insurance agent. Contact me if you wish to view selected photos or can shed any light on the identity of this family. Notify Administrator about this message?
