Hi all,
I am descended from a Jane (sometimes spelt Jean) BEGG who was born about 1781, probably (but quite possibly not) in the parish of Aboyne. She married Peter BROWN in 1807 (banns read in Aboyne and in Birse), and died 20 June 1841.
Stone 72 in the Glentanar Kirkyard, Aboyne reads:
"Erected by Peter Brown farmer in Etnach in memory of his wife Jane Begg d. 20 Jun 1841 aged 61. Said Peter Brown d. Ballater 5 Oct 1860 aged 75."
I notice that stones 73-75 are also for BEGG family members, and wonder if they might be related. I know that in the Tullich kirkyard, stones 324-328 are all for the same family, and offshoots. So if anyone knows anything about the following families, so that Jane(/Jean) may be related, please let me know:
Stone 73:
"Erected by John MACHRAY Mains of Drum & his wife Helen BEGG in memory of William BEGG farmer Waternaldie d. 15 Sep 1832 aged 89, his wife Janet ROSS d. 10 Apr 1822 aged 70. Their children Janet, Margaret & Catherine."
Stone 74:
"1865. Erected by James MAYDON constable Aboyne in memory of his wife Jessie BEGG d. 23 Jul 1865 aged 23. Their daughter Jessie Ann MAYDON d. 19 Aug 1865 aged 5 mths."
Stone 75:
"Erected by Peter BEGG farmer Braeline in memory of his wife Catherine EWAN d. 25 Jun 1862 aged 58. Their family Jean d. 6 Jan 1838 aged 14, Mary d. 14 Jan 1838 aged 8, John d. 20 Aug 1840 aged 14, Robert d. 31 May 1834 aged 11 mths, Hellen d. 28 Dec 1847 aged 4 mths, Andrew d. 18 Sep 1864 aged 18, Fredrick d. 2 Jun 1865 aged 27. Said Peter BEGG d. 5 Oct 1867 aged 74, son Alexander d. Melbourne 14 Jan 1871 aged 34. A grandson Frederick BEGG d. 3 Jun 1873 aged 3. His daughter Ann d. 23 Jan 1912 aged 82, son James BEGG gardener d. 6 Apr 1925 aged 93. Jane TEVENDALE wife of James BEGG d. 3 Jan 1926 aged 83."
