Sorry I made an error when I said Margaret the daughter of Daniel Gaines was the widow Rouzee. Daniel's wife was the widow. Enclosed is a timeline for Margaret (?) the wife of John Prosser etc.
Many have said Daniel’s daughter Margaret was the same Margaret who was the wife of John Prosser. John’s wife was indeed named Margaret and Symon Miller her second husband states Anthony Prosser was Margaret’s son.
Timeline for Margaret (?) Prosser, Miller, French, Sommerville
28 August 1673 John Prosser signed his will and named four sons including Anthony.
30 June 1677 Prosser’s will presented for probate.
16 February 1679 Simon Miller signed his will and named 6 children.
30 November 1683 Margaret as widow of Simon enters into a lease agreement with Andrew Harrison.
7 May 1684 Simon Miller’s will accepted for probate.
5 March 1684/5 Margaret’s last appearance in the records as relict of Simon Miller.
6 May 1685 Hugh French in court on behalf of the widow of Simon Miller whom he married.
Daniel Gaines married the widow Rouzee in 1662. This marriage date is derived from the record whereby John Catlett turned over the property of his half brother’s children to Gaines. Therefore the Gaines children would be born after that date. Anthony the son of Margaret (?) was born by 1673. A date when the eldest child of Daniel Gaines and wife Margaret would be no older than ten years; an age not acceptable for marriage in that society.
Therefore it is reasoanable to conclude Margaret, the wife of Hugh etc was not Margaret the daughter of Daniel Gaines.
