Also note Daniel had 3 children Margaret who was married but childless at the time the will was written, Mary and Bernard. (Stubbs, p. 13) Col. John Catlett came to Rappannock County, Virginia(Essex County since 1692) with his son Nicholas,and his half brothers Ralph and Edward Rowzee,and sister Sarah. "Col. Catlett was killed by the Indians while defending the fort at Port Royal in 1670. Port Royal is on the Rappahannock river, in Caroline county, VA, opposite Port Conway." (Stubbs, p. 15) "John Catlett (1622-1670), a native of Sittingbourne, Kent, England, came to Virginia in 1650, settling in Rappahannock County, on the south side of the river at the mouth of Golden Vale Creek. There is a tradition that he was killed by Indians while commanding a fort at the site of the present Port Royal in Caroline County. "in 1671, Mrs. Elizabeth Catlett, widow of Col. Jno., gave power of attorney to Mr. Dan'l Gaines, and also later made him 'overseer of her will' and to have main charge of the children (1673). After a suit in May court, 1673, between Rev. Amory Butler (who married the widow of Col. John Catlett) and Capt. Thos. Hawkins, who married the sister of Mrs. Jno. Catlett, Dan'l Gaines took charge of the Catlett children and Rev.
