A number of records (1790 census, 1789 tax list, the will of William Haden) establish the name of William Haden's wife as Unity. Some listings of the family give Unity's maiden name as Wyatt, but none that I've seen give their source for that. I did some general searching today and came across the name Unity Aylett. I'm wondering if there is a Bible record with my Unity's maiden name that was read as Wyatt, but could have been Aylett. Unity Aylett was born before 1747 when her mother Martha (Dandridge) Aylett died. The Aylett family was living in King William Co., VA, which is also where Anthony Haden was living until at least 1747 and he had land in adjacent Goochland Co. for many years after that. Based on property listings, the Hadens and Ayletts would have been in somewhat equal social circles and probably knew each other. I cannot find a death date or estate record for the father Philip Aylett, but that may because of the destruction of the King William records. I also cannot find any further records on Unity Aylett. The tombstone record of Martha (Dandridge) Aylett establishes her birth as about 1721. The listings of her children imply that Unity was the oldest. Some sources give Unity's birth as 1739/1740, but I don't think there is any solid evidence for this. Even with this relatively early date, Unity's possible identity as the wife of William Haden requires a fairly tight timeline because William's daughter Margaret (Haden) Stockton had a son Benjamin whose estimated birthdate is 1775 (combining 1800 and 1830 census yields 1774-1780). Biologically, it's possible for Unity to have been a grandmother at 35. Does anyone know the source of the name Wyatt for Unity? Could it have been Aylett? Has anyone found a connection between the two families? The Aylett family would be an interesting connection since it ties to the Wests (as in Lord Delaware), the Dandridge family, the Washington family, the Lee family, and the Spotswoods among others. Thanks for any input that might help confirm or reject this possibility. Guy Perry Notify Administrator about this message?
