My name is Dan Teitelbaum and I am researching my family who came from New England, Mass. and RI sepcifically. I have been having some difficulty finding out more information on my Great grandfather: his name was Joseph Casse, however his last name could have been at one time Lacasse, and then changed it. I did get a record of his marriage in 1909 (25 Oct) to Mary Louise Crevier at Notre Dame de Central Falls, RI. It has listed that Joseph's parents were Joseph Lacasse and Agnes Lajoie (Canada). I'm not too sure about this. In the 1910 census, Joseph and Mary are listed as having the last name Casse, and my grandfather, who was born in 1911, was named Arthur Joseph Casse. In 1910, they lived on Fletcher St. along with my great grandmother's brother, Henry and her uncle and aunt Frank and Amanda Crevier. They moved to Cranston, at some point, and my grandfather was born there, I am pretty sure it was Smith Street. My mother's maiden name is Casse. Now, my great grandfather, Joseph, died in Oct. of 1912, after contracting TB, I think, from a near drowning, so I am told. His death cert. has him listed as Joseph Lacasse, having died at 44 Smith St. in Cranston. It also has him listed as being buried in Notre Dame cemetary in Pawtucket. I called the cemetary and they do not have record of his burial there. The reason why this is so confusing is the changing of the last name Casse/Lacasse. On my grandfather's birth cert. is says that his father's (my great grandfather) last name was Casse. So, yes...confusion. After Joseph Casse died in 1912, my great grandmother Mary Casse, married Albert Johnson, and they, along with my grandfather, Arthur, lived in Central Falls, on Walcott street. They divorced, I don't know when, and my great grandmother and her son, my grandfather, Arthur eventually moved to Bristol. My mother, Marilynn, who was actually born in Fall River, MA, lived there until she was about 11 or 12 and the family moved to PA. My grandfather worked for Collins and Aikman where my other great grandfather, Joseph Henry Farrell was a supervisor. That's where my grandparents, Arthur J. Casse and Jacquelyn Farrell met.
Anyway, I was hoping that you might be able to search your records for any clues as to his life (Joseph Lacasse/Casse). If you need any more information, I will be happy to provide it to you.
