Allen: Your point is well taken. I found no specific evidence that John Marders had issue. My speculation - which is what it was - that John may have been the father, rather than the brother, of William Marders was based on the 25 year difference in their dates of death. It is possible that John simply died at a fairly early age, but that large a gap suggested to me the probability that John was an earlier generation and not a sibling to William. However, your posting indicates that William was a son of Thomas. Might John just as easily have been a brother of Thomas and hence an uncle to William? I was not aware of the 1718 document you have cited - do you have a date of death for Thomas or any clues as to his parentage?
