O'MEARA FOGARTY POWER LEAHY Ballydavid, Littleton Moyne Indianapolis Most Rev Dr Edwarad T O'MEARA MAHER Undated, un-named newspaper article "Centenary of U.S. Archbishop's Mother" A County Tipperary victory in this year's All-Ireland senior hurling final against Antrim in Croke Park would be sweet indeed for a Littleton woman who will be one hundred yers old on September 27th. For when she ws ninety-five years old Mrs Mary O'MEARA, a native of Ballydavid, Littleton, visited THURLES for the centenary Munster Final in which TIPPERARY were unlucky to lose out. Mrs O'MEARA, who is mother of Archbishop Edward T. O'MEARA of Indianapolis, lives near her brother and is still keeping an active interest in news from home which she left at the ge of nineteen years to go to her uncles, Denis and Gerry FOGARTY, in America. She came home after two yers to TIPPERARY and met and marrried her late husband, John O'MEARA from MOYNE. The couple had two children, Edward T., now the Archbishop of Indianapolis and Mrs Peggy CHRISTIE who died in her mid-thirties. Archbishop O'MEARA a regular visitor to his Irish relatives, will visit Mrs O'MEARA's niece and godchild, Mrs Madge POWER, her husband John, at Leigh, TWO-MILE-BORRIS from September 7 - 12. He will also visit the POWERS's son, Eamonn and his wife, Cait, and children Mairead (13) Sean (10) and Kay (4 months) Other relatives of Mrs O'MEARA are another niece, Mrs Kitty MAHER, Galboola and nephews Jimy LEAHY, who lives in Mrs O'MEARA's family homestead in BLLYDAVID in a dwelling adjoining the old dwelling; Paddy LEAHY, Brittas Road, THURLES, and John LEAHY of LAHARDEN. The Archbishop is very popular in the Leigh area where he is based and he has been visiting the POWER family for thirty-eight years. He will visit all his TIPPERARY relatives as usual on his September visit. Mrs Mary O'MEARA had one sister and three brothers, all now deceased. Mrs Madge POWER on behalf of all the relatives in County TIPPERARY would like to extend a happy birthday to Mrs Mary O'MEARA who has lived for some eighty years a long, long way from Tipperary. Mrs Madge POWER said "Mary is very alert and active. She was on a picnic to Bunratty with us five years ago. She is a great traveller. She also goes out to dinner and for drives with her son, the Archbishop, and loves news from home. She was reading news from home when I spoke to the Archbishop only recently". Now, if the blue and gold jersied TIPPERARY heroes could account for Antrim, that would be good news for the TIPPERARY exile. Di Queensland Australia Notify Administrator about this message?
