Laura, Very interesting information! I was told that James Parish was most likely the son of John Parrish & Sarah Franklin but I had my doubts! What information do you have that gives Samuel as the father of James? I have a transcribed copy of James' will and a family group sheet of Jolly's family. Jolly died in Louisa Co, Va in May 1783. His first wife was listed as unknown, but someone had commented that it might be Mary Blackwell, second wife was listed as Ann Powers, daughter of Major & Dorathea Powers. Children:
Elizabeth b. 8 Aug 1758, m. 26 July 1775 Henry Lawrence; Robert Parrish b.c1760; Meredith Parrish b.c1763; 2nd wife; Corbin Parrish b. 8 Dec 1767; Frances Parrish m. 28 Mar 1786 Robert Groom; Dorothy Parrish, James Powers Parrish, Cynthia Ford Parrish m.1) 20 Feb 1793 Abisha Pemberton, 2) 2 Feb 1799 John Brody; Parmelia Parrish b.1778 m. 18 June 1796 Carter Parrish; Jolly S Parrish b. 1780 m. 15 Feb 1802 Roxie Ann Spencer.
Will, Louisa Co, Va. Book 2, pages 470-471 Records, Goochland Co, Va, Rev War Service.
This information was sent to me by Linda Bailey, who is a decendant of Jolly's I believe.
I have traced my line to Bartlet Parish/Parrish, who may be the son of Joseph Parish & Mary Priddy. It was said that Joseph was the son of James and Mary Barnett, but I have doubts. James will mentions a grandson Joseph, but no son Joseph, unless he was already deceased. Are you sure Mary's last name was Barnett and not Bartlett?
I'd be very interested in what ever sources you have on Samuel. I've been working on the Joel Parish line also, and his fater is said to be Samuel or Solomon I believe. I can't find my reference at the moment, but perhaps Joel and Jolly are related? Joel is of the Parish line from Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Keep in touch!
Karen or
