Thank you - the problem has been noted - in my previous long post of material from the POTTER CDROM, there was a reference that gave the corrected info (given below). It looks like a LOT of family genealogists took C.E.Potter as gospel, and didn't do their own checking! I think it was Ronald Reagan who said: "Trust, but verify." That applies to genealogy data as well.

Found in "Potter Profiles" vol.1, p.15 (dated Fall 1984):
"A Potter-Richardson Memorial, the ancestral lines of William W. Potter of Michigan and his wife, Margaret Richardson", compiled by Doreen Potter
Hanna and Louise Potter, 1957. submitted by Paul Haynes.
[Note that this account uses the will of Gregory Stone as evidence that Anthony Potter had married (2) Elizabeth Stone.]

Anthony Potter, born in England about 1627/8, emigrated to Ipswich, MA. Here he married about 1647/8, Elizabeth Whipple, daughter of John

Cambridge, MA. [some omitted] He died in 1690/ The timbstone of his wife, at Ipswich, reads: "Here lys burried Mrs Elizabeth Potter who died March ye
