Hello Linda, I know it's been a while since your posting here. I was wondering, in your research, have you ever come across the surname VonReeden (VonReuden,VonRheden,Reeden, or other spellings)? I'm looking (VERY unsuccessfully) for John VonReeden, b.abt.1876, possibly in or around Cincinnati. His parents were John VonReeden(SR)and a very young Elizabeth Katherine Thalman (aka Alice,Elise,Elsie.) I don't know where the family moved around to,but,on 14 Feb.1880, Eliz.Kath.Thalman VonReeden gave birth to Carrie VonReeden in Chicago,IL. Somewhere around that time John,SR. *disappeared* from the scene. Was he in the military,in prison, dead,or, perhaps, abducted by aliens??? Anyway, Katherine took young Carrie to Oswego,IL.,where she was "taken in" by August & Gussie Shoger, who had ADOPTED other children. These people did not seem to be related to the Thalmans or V-Reedens. The "Von" was dropped from Carrie's last name and she was known as Carrie Reeden 'til she married.(She lived with the Shogers until then.) Her mother and brother left Oswego and moved to Atlanta,GA. after dropping off Carrie. Eliz.Kath.lived with son John even after he married(to Lillian Viola Gravitt,on 16 Feb.1898 in Atlanta). The VonReedens and Thalman were German, possibly from the Alsace-Lorraine area. The V-Reedens were Catholic and Thalman may have been Jewish. Some other family first names are: Charles Maurice, George Stient,John Joseph,Vivian Rebecca,Alice, & Carrie. Thank you for your time! Warm Regards, Patti pmsong450@sbcglobal.net Notify Administrator about this message?
