Oct. 10, 1924 - Sept. 10, 2001 LOUISIANA - Guy Reeder, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at the John Cochran Veteran's Hospital in St. Louis. Private graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Wells Cemetery near Pleasant Hill. The Rev. Don Hannell will officiate. A private visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. Mr. Reeder was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Pike County, Ill., to Harry and Electa Tedrow Reeder. He was married to Audrey Mae Barber on Dec. 21, 1946, in Bowling Green. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Guyla Personett of Pittsfield, Ill.; one son, Aaron Jeffrey Reeder of Titusville, Fla.; three brothers; and three sisters. He was preceded in death by three brothers; and three sisters. Mr. Reeder had owned and operated Reeder's Plumbing and Heating in Clarksville from 1976 until he retired in 1991. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post in Pittsfield. He had been active in the community serving as a Boy Scout leader and coaching a Little League ballteam. He was a member of the Christian faith. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Memorials may be made to the VFW, in care of the funeral home. http://www.hannibal.net/stories/091101/obi_0911010014.shtml I did some research on the other Reeder line and had to go thru these to cull them out. I believe your line is the George Reeder/Jane Sherrill one. REEDER, George...Sherrill, Jane...02 Nov 1819...Washington County, TN ==== Here is another George Reeder Information provided to the 1980's Reeder newsletter from Jay G. Lamb; Box 745, Bartlesville, Okla 74005 Included in information received from Mrs. G. A. Reeder by Charles Wells Reeder and included in his collection at the Ohio State Library, Columbus, Ohio is the following: One Reeder came from Germany and settled in Tennessee - Had a Power mill - was blown up - had 2 sons, George and William. William stayed in Jonesborough Tennessee. George moved to Indiana - had 4 sons. Thomas (4), William (6) and John (4), & Joseph (9 all in Cass, Missouri) The origin of this information is not known. Thomas did have four children by his first mariage. William and John did have the number of children shown; however, Joseph had 12 children. Interestingly Elizabeth, daughter of George reported to have said that her father sometimes spoke in German to entertain the children, but would not allow them to speak German. A grandson of William, son of George, wrote to Mr. Truman A. Reeder on February 14, 1956 the following: Grandfather knew that he had a relative by the name of Jesse Reeder that drowned in the Delaware River, while on a fishing trip. Jesse was in the lien of uncle or great uncle I can't remember which. If I remember correctly, Jesse's father was a Charles Reeder. The History of "Cass and Bates Counties, Missouri", 1883, page 544 states that George Reeder, father of Joseph M. Reeder, was a native of Georgia. However, census enumerations of George Reeder's children indicate that their father was born in NC, TN and VA. Washington Co, TN records copied by the WPA include tax lists, 1814-1819. George Reeder, 1 WP, is listed in Capt. Brown's Co. for 1817 through 1819. Washington Co, TN, Will Book 1, Page 197 actual will at the courthouse and County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions 1829-1831, copied by the WPA, shows that Elizabeth Webb's will dated 23 Dec. 1827 was witnessed by John Rose, George Reeder and Allen T. Rose. The will was proven in court on 13 July 1829 by oaths of John Rose and Allen T. Rose, two of the subscribing witnesses. In Carter Co, TN on 12 Jan 1811 a Mary Reeder married John Rose. He was likely the above John Rose and the one later in Putnam Co, IN and Clay Co, IN. Mary Reeder, his wife, could have been related to George Reeder. Microfilm of records for Deer Creek Church, Putnam Co., IN, at the Indiana State Library, Indianapolis, IN, indicate that Jane Reder became a member in November 1829. Later (probably in 1831) John Rose and Polly Rose became members. Records of Mill Creek Church, Putnam Co, IN owned by Mr. Worth M. Buis, Indianapolis, IN, show that Jane Reeder joined that new church in April 1830 and that she had joined another church (New Providence Baptist Church) approximately February 1840. Records of the former General Land Office, now in the National Archives, show cash certificate file numbers 31307 for the NE1/4 of NW1/4 Sec. 36, Twp 13N, R 3W and 32398 for NW1/4 of NW1/4 Sec. 36, Twp 13N, R 3W, both in the name of George Reeder, dated Dec. 29, 1836 and August 21, 1837, respectively, issued at Crawfordsville, IN., for $50 each. This land was sold by George and Jane Reeder to Samuel Landes on Nov. 16, 1842 for $400 (Putnam Co, IN Deed Book I, Page 400). Jane Reeder is reported to have been the first adult buried in the New Providence Cemetery in Putnam Co, IN. No tombstone has been found. George Reeder moved his family to Pike Co, IL where his son, Thomas, lived and died there shortly after the death of his wife. The children returned on their own to Putnam Co, IN, where they were placed in the homes of their mother's relatives, the Sherrills.
