I am aware of John Sadler, who, with Richard Quiney, acquired Martin's Brandon, but there is no evidence that he or his only son John Jr. actually moved to Virginia. Although they owned land in Virginia, and may have visited occasionally, they remained in England and certainly died there.

Judging from the will of John Sadler Jr., proved 16 November 1716, in England, John Jr. did not have a male heir and left his Virginia land to "Sir Charles Ingleby and his heirs" provided that they pay a certain amount to John's daughter Elizabeth Sadler. As far as I can tell, this particular Sadler family never had any further contact with Virginia.

Sadler was a common name. I have found several Sadlers in Virginia in the late 17th century, who had NO connection to John Sadler of Martin's Brandon. I suspect that a seperate, less impressive, Sadler family (or two) immigrated to Virginia in the 17th century and that Thomas Sadler came from them. I believe they were Quakers, because Thomas and his son Featherstone were Quakers. (ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN QUAKER GENEALOGY; William Wade Hinshaw; 1950)

It is possible that Michael Cadet Young's wife, Temperance, was a Sadler, but there is no proof one way or the other. Temperance definitely wasn't a second wife for Michel Cadet Young. She was his only wife. Temperance was listed on the baptismal record for Michael Cadet Young's first child, Francis. Her name was on a deed from the 1750's and she was listed in her son Michael Cadet Young Jr.'s 1762 will. The folks who say that Michael Cadet Young was married to Martha Sadler do not have any documentation -- because there isn't any. The original documents all say that Michael Cadet Young's wife was named "Temperance."

If you are trying to find the parents of Thomas Sadler (m. Rebecca Featherston), you may want to focus on trying to figue out the names of the Sadlers who were in Prince George/Henrico Co between 1700 and 1740.

I have a long file on Nancy Young and Daniel Wright. I will send it to you for you comments. If you are interested, please contact me directly.
