Virginia,
I will e-mail you my Cadet Young family files. Some are in better shape than the others. I will have to take a look at Nancy's file to see whether she is in sharing shape or whether I have to do some editing.

I have seen the information about Rowland Sadler's arrival in Virginia and know that there is speculation that he was a son of John Sadler, however, his name does not appear in records for John Sadler's family. In addition, there actually was another Sadler family in England in the early/mid-17th century with the name "Rowland Sadler" in a couple of generations. See the following:

"Some Additions to Newcourt's Repertorium," J. C. Challenor Smith," Transactions of the Essex Archaeological Society, Essex Archaeological Society , Vol. II, Colchester, Essex (England), p. 274: [West Thurrock] "Ant. Sadler: A Latin MI formerly in the church (? now lost) begins ' Anthonius Sadler, filius Rowland Sadler, educatus Cant., ecclesiae hujus Vic., ob. die mensis Maij 19, 1642 (H.W.K.) Rowland Sadler's will (1642: 122, Fines) describes him as Citizen and Vintner of London. He speaks of his grandson Rowland Sadler, son of Anthony Sadler, late of W. Thurrock, minister, his son deceased.

If I read the above correctly, Rowland Sadler, Sr., who left the will, lived in London and was a vintner -- in other words, a merchant. He may have been related to John Sadler who was also a merchant in London at that time. Rowland's son Anthony, deceased clergyman, had a son Rowland. Maybe this fellow was the Rowland Sadler who went to Virginia in 1635.

In addition to Virginia records for Rowland, I have found Virginia records from the 17th and early 18th centuries for a John Sadler, a Capt. John Sadler, two or three different Thomas Sadlers and a Robert Sadler. Unfortunately, I cannot tell if these guys are related to each other or to the Thomas Sadler who married Rebecca Featherston and started showing up on Brunswick Co. records about 1740.

Sadler and Cadet Young research is complicated by the fact that early researchers wanted to connect these families to ancestors of wealth and power. So connections got manufactured that really didn't exist. Unfortunately, a lot of this "mistaken" genealogy is widely circulated as the "truth."

Janice
