Daniel Mijamin Taft Farmer, Miner, and Mail/Freight Carrier and with deep affection Annie May Taft
My paternal Great Grandmother is Annie May Taft Boreham. Annie married William John Boreham March 8, 1880 in San Bernardino California. Annie May Taft a.k.a. Amelia Taft was born May 1862 in San Bernardino California daughter of Daniel Mijamin Taft. Daniel Mijamin Taft was born 1828 NY. L.D.S. Temple vital records Film #0824297 have Daniel M. Taft born 1828 Chemung (Tioga), Elmira, New York. Daniel Mijamin Taft married Sarah Louisa A. and Sarah L.A. Taft was born 13 September 1824 IL. Other daughters and sons of Daniel Mijamin Taft are Emma Jane Taft Morse, Frances D. Taft Cortrite a.k.a. Fannie a.k.a Amie, Henrietta L. Taft St. John, Daniel Asa Taft, and Loren Taft. Daniel Asa Taft married Mary Jane Martin; Loren Taft married Minnie Maria Perry. Mary Jane Martin is 1/8th Cherokee Indian blood, as she is related to a famous Cherokee woman who helped the pioneers in the Revolutionary war.
My paternal Great Grandfather Daniel M. Taft his name is inscribed on a monument in front of old San Bernardino court house as resident of old San Bernardino Fort. G. Grandfather Daniel Mijamin Taft his main occupation was farmer in San Bernardino. Before being a farmer he was a miner in 1850 his average daily product was $8. According to a letter my paternal G. Grandmother Annie Taft Boreham wrote that Daniel Mijamin Taft was part of the Government forty-niner family. Other Taft cousins have speculated that it is possible that Daniel Mijamin Taft joined the Mormon trail with other Taft relatives among them Seth Taft (son of Seth and Lidia Taft) and Ezra Taft Benson (who was the son of Chloe Taft and John Benson from New York). One thing is certain that Daniel Mijamin Taft wife was a member of the Mormon Church. Daniel M. Taft is listed as owning property in the Mormon fort of San Bernardino. In the fall of 1857 Mormon leaders ordered Mormon settlers in San Bernardino to come back to Utah. Daniel Mijamin Taft refused to leave San Bernardino as a result of disobedience to the Mormon Church they were removed from association with the Mormon Church. Mr. Taft in 1848 is in a Mormon pioneer company. Daniel Mijamin Taft second known job was as mail carrier. From 1853 until June 1858 when Daniel M. Taft of San Bernardino discontinued mail service to Provo Utah and is making arrangements to begin a semi-monthly mail service from G.S.L. City to Placerville California by the northern route and the first mail to leave G.S.L. City on the 4th of July 1858 and the company to be allowed sixteen days to make a trip during the first three months service. August 27, 1856 Daniel M. Taft teamster and mail carrier to a Mormon was stabbed – fortunately he was just wounded by not killed. July 31, 1880 Mr. Dan Taft, the proprietor of the water cart which was used for sprinkling the streets of San Bernardino. My G. Grandfather William John Boreham was a master blacksmith. An opportunity arose for G. Grandfather William John Boreham to make $100 per month as blacksmith for Fort Mohave Arizona so from June 1881 – 1888 William John Boreham worked as blacksmith of Fort Mohave Arizona; he took William John Jr. Boreham with him, while Annie Taft Boreham stayed in San Bernardino attending to the property. Annie Taft Boreham and William John Boreham together they had seven boys. William J. Boreham would visit the family in San Bernardino also Annie would come to Fort Mohave Arizona in a wagon with the other five Boreham boys, forth born Boreham boy Albert Corliss Boreham died just 10 months old June 1890. After the death of Albert Boreham, William J. Boreham moved the family July 1890 to Mohave Arizona. After a brief visit back to San Bernardino, William J. Boreham returned to Mohave Arizona November 1890 to open a salon business in Mohave Arizona. Then Annie Taft Boreham with family relocated back to California February 1891. On January 1914 Annie Taft Boreham wrote in a letter to her niece Nellie in the letter it states “there was quite a little fortune for your father and myself given to us when we were children and through some great mistake it was over looked until recently. Aunties and Great uncles were getting elderly so the family records were looked up and found all these years that we had been represented by someone else glad to know they were not any relation of ours. Another letter on Jan 10th 1914 Annie Taft Boreham wrote to nephew Clarence she wrote, “I was living on North Main Street they put in a Government Phone for me to settle a long dispute as Brother Daniel Asa Taft and I had quite a little fortune left us by our Great Uncles and Aunts which was given us when we were children…I had the loveliest talk at long distance our father and mothers history which is beautiful. You see your grandfather Taft’s fathers relation belong to so many great and grand relation and as it was your father and my affairs I learned a great many things which I am so anxious to see all of you boys to tell you…Our family the Western Taft family of the Government forty-niner family will not be hard to find as Aunt Fannie lives in Fresno, Aunt Henrietta lives in Oregon your father at Oklahoma, Lorin was with your father. Annie's brother Daniel Asa Taft had been passed away 15 years by the time she wrote that letter to her niece and nephew. I am calling all Taft and Taft relation to help me find the brothers and sisters of Daniel Mijamin Taft, so that I will know the parents of my paternal G. Grandfather Daniel Mijamin Taft.
