I am sixth gr. grandaughter of Robert Taffe, the immigrant from Ireland.
I know nothing about his bros., but I just read here that he has a son not on my list, a Matthew. I have listed Thomas,Robert, Daniel, Benjamin, MY LINE, and Joseph (line of Alphonzo, father of Pres. Taft).
My line is Mijamen, Nathaniel, Stephen, who married Vienna Harris, daughter of Stephen & Charlotte Harris (Ballou) Taft. in N.H. They lived in Oswego Co., N.Y. One of their girls another Vienna,marr'd Avery Brown Snyder and they raised their 4 kids in Freeport, Ill. One was my grandma, Ellen Snyder McKee, one Judge Jared Snyder) then on to Io., where Stephen H. Taft, son of Stephen & Charlotte founded the town of Humboldt, and a university. From there he went to Sawtelle, Ca., which I think he founded and they are known for Kadota figs.
This was veryinteresting to me,
because I knew my gr. gr. uncle,
Judge Jared Snyder, at one time Asst. U.S.Secretary of Agriculture, had marrd. Aunt Suzie (Wilson). Not long ago, I was told Suzan Wilson was the daughter of Dwayne Wilson, 1st cousin of Pres. Woodrow Wilson. Dwayne was known as General because he was Supt. of the Great Lakes, and was an Editor, having started the Chicago Tribune, then selling it and running another large paper which he sold and returned to Des Moines. But I loved learning that my cousin Taft, after 1st term at Pres., actually ran for a second term against my aunts cousin, Wilson & Teddy too. Willy hated being pres., always wanted to be on the Supreme Court bench, and he did become the chief justice, and is responsible for erecting the present Washington Court House. Since I was taking a law course in college (for about 5 minutes) I am happy to know a blood relation went all the way.
I am now searching Vienna Harris (father Ballou) families. I think they were in Ma. Anyone? Thanks. Donna
