I am the great great grandson of Dr, Cheney Howe, born and raised in Townsend, Vermont in 1810 and graduated from Yale in 1833. There was a family tradition that the Howes and Alphonso Taft were related. The aunt of Cheney Howe named Sally did marry into a Howard family in Jamaica, Vermont and she and her husband did have a child named Sophia as opposed to Sylvia. My question concerns the names of Sylvia.s parents. I believe Sophias father was named Amos. Also, since Cheney Howe and Alphonso Taft were bought up in the same town in Vermont, I am wondering if there is anything in the records of Alphonso regarding Cheney.
