I am searching for information regarding Sally WHITE, b. (?) probably in VT and m. a Mr. TAFF/TAFT. Sally was the d/o of Caleb WHITE, b. abt. 1761 in CT. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier (though very young at the time). He m. Chloe HAMILTON. I do not know if Caleb and Chloe m. in CT or VT. At some point about 1815 Caleb and at least some of his family (if not all) migrated to Bradford Co., PA. There is a Caleb WHITE listed in the 1790 Census for Middletown, Rutland Co., VT. There is one male under 16, one male over 16, and two females in the household. I believe this to be my Caleb because one of his daughters marries Stephen PALMER from Tinmouth, Rutland Co., VT. Also, I have noticed that there are many PARKERS listed in Rutland Co. that might account for another daughter's marriage. According to Heverly's "Pioneers & Patriot Families of Bradford Co., PA," Caleb and Chloe HAMILTON WHITE came from Vermont. They had the following children: (1) David WHITE, b. (?), m. (?) (2) Lucy WHITE, b. (?), m. a Mr. PALMER - no further information (3) Malinda WHITE, b. abt. 1793 in VT, m. Nathan Cloyse BALLARD (my ancestors) (4) Artemisia "Harty" WHITE, b. abt. 1795 m. James H. ROSS** (5) Chloe WHITE, b. (?), m. a Mr. PARKER - no further information (6) Sally WHITE, b. (?), m. a Mr. TAFF/TAFT - no further information (7) Silas H. WHITE, b. abt. 1808 in VT, m. Charlotte BLODGETT in Bradford Co., PA (8) Sylvia WHITE, b. (?), m. Alanson WORDEN **I recently discovered that Artemisia "Harty" WHITE had m. (1st) Stephen PALMER, s/o Jareb PALMER and Esther A. RICE from Tinmouth, Rutland Co., VT. The PALMERS also migrated to Bradford Co., PA, abt. 1813. Stephen PALMER d. abt. 1826 and left Harty w/several children: (1) Norman PALMER, b. abt. 1815 in PA, m. Mary DOBBINS in Bradford Co., PA; they had five daughters, but only one lived to maturity (2) Chloe PALMER, b. abt. 1817 in PA - no further information (3) Loisa/Louisa PALMER, b. abt. 1818 in PA - no further information (4) Dorinda PALMER, b. abt. 1820 in PA, m. Barna VROOMAN/VROMAN in Bradford Co., PA (5) Stephen Rice PALMER, b. abt. 1822 in PA, m. (1st) Alice WAKEFIELD in Bradford Co., PA, they had two sons, Alice d. and Stephen R. m. (2nd) Anna E. PHELPS in Bradford Co., PA, they had at least one son. After Stephen's death, Harty m. (2nd) Nathaniel HICKOK in Canton Twp., Bradford Co., PA, they had at least one daughter; m. (3rd) James H. ROSS. Harty and her daughter are listed in the 1850 Census for Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA, in the household of James H. ROSS. Harty is buried in the Granville Centre Cemetery and her headstone reads Autie ROSS** There is at least one David WHITE in Bradford Co. at this time. One of the Davids was m. to Mary FERRIS, d/o Jehiel FERRIS. I do not know if this is the same David that is the son of Caleb and Chloe HAMILTON WHITE. Also, information regarding Sylvia WHITE and Alanson WORDEN seems to indicate that Sylvia would have been b. abt. 1820, which requires further investigation. In the 1840 Census for Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA, in the household of Nathan Ballard, there are two elderly people living with his family, one is referenced as "Caleb WHITE, age 79." The elderly woman is also in this age group, but her name is not indicated. In the 1850 Census for Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA, Melinda Emily WHITE and her husband, Nathan Newell FINNEY, are living "next door" to her parents, Nathan C. BALLARD and Melinda WHITE. Melinda WHITE indicated to the census taker that her place of birth was Vermont. Caleb and Chloe are buried in the Granville Center Cemetery, Granville Twp., Bradford Co., PA. Caleb's headstone indicates that he died in 1848 (this would make him approximately 87 years old). Nathan C. BALLARD and Malinda WHITE had at least three children: (1)Melinda Emily BALLARD, b. abt. 1818 in PA m. Nathan Newell FINNEY (his 2nd marriage--my ancestors) (2)Martha BALLARD, b. abt. 1822 in Troy, Bradford Co., PA, m. Daniel SMITH, s/o Benager SMITH of Franklin Twp., Bradford Co., PA (3) Ezra O. BALLARD, b. abt. 1828, m. Lucy KINNEY. This couple and their daughter are listed in a later census in WI. Melinda Emily BALLARD and Nathan Newell FINNEY had the following children: (1) Alfred D. FINNEY, b. abt. 1839 (2) Allen McKean PHINNEY, b. 1840 m. Hannah Jane CLARK d/o Uriah CLARK and Ruth RIGGS (my ancestors) (3) Alvin FINNEY, b. abt. 1843 (4) Anson C. FINNEY, b. abt. 1845 (5) Olive Annitt FINNEY, b. 1848, m. a Mr. FOOTE (6) Apollis H. FINNEY, b. abt. 1852 (7) Hyland L. FINNEY, b. abt. 1855 All children b. in PA. Melinda Emily BALLARD (FINNEY) and her daughter Olive Annitt FINNEY (FOOTE) are also buried in the Granville Center Cemetery. Melinda's grave reads "Melena E. FINNEY." Information I have found indicates that Nathan C. BALLARD d. 1852 in or near Greene Co., OH (where his 1st wife, Betsy DOBBINS and their children were living). I do not know where Malinda WHITE BALLARD d. or is buried. Any information regarding the ancestors or descendants of Caleb and Chloe HAMILTON WHITE would be greatly appreciated. My line to Caleb and Chloe runs: Lynne M. BERGQUIST < Daniel A. BERGQUIST & Sue LYON < Bernice Irene PHINNEY & Daniel N.
