I have done quite a bit of research in regards to Antonio Zapata. There is no link to Nicolas Zapata. Antonio did not have any surviving male heirs and in my research there were no brothers that I have found yet. This may be because he was a national hero. There are many different Zapata families along the Rio Grande in Starr/Zapata counties. Since Antonio had no surviving male heirs, his descendants have many different last names. I am a descendant of his. My family name that links me to Antonio Zapata is Coronado. His daughter, Maria Anna was married to Jose Maria Coronado. This is on my mother's mother's side of the family. On my mother's father's side of the family, the name Zapata is also found, but there is no relation to Antonio. Even then, the Zapata name ends up with no surviving male heirs and ending the Zapata surname. Check into the Guerrero Viejo parish records. The majority of people with that last name are registered there.
